Why am I here? What should I do? These are questions that have dogged me for years, and I know they are common questions that many people struggle with every day. One of my goals over the last few years has been to launch a blog to talk about my life and my journey to discover meaning and purpose. I want to use this blog to reach out to the people who are like me, struggling to find direction in their lives, and to show how I find meaning in this world. But let’s get started with a few things about me.
I’m a Female Engineer
According to The Congressional Joint Economic Committee, 14% of engineers are women. This is abysmal, but it’s showing improvement as approximately 20% of engineering students are women. In the solar industry, where I currently work, the numbers are better. A survey by the Solar Foundation found that women were 24% of the solar workforce. I am actually lucky that my department at work is nearly 40% women. Although it’s getting better, there are still very few people like me in the world. I hope to use this space to reach out and inspire women to join me and to document my experiences with STEM.
I’m a Minimalist (in training)
Minimalism is a lifestyle trend, and I’ve been working on making my life as efficient and streamlines as possible. While my journey into Minimalism is still in progress, I’ve learned a lot about the process. My life is being shaped by the principles of minimalism and I hope to share this journey, to exchange tips and tricks, and inspire others to try a lifestyle based in efficiency: efficiency of time, energy, and things.
I’m an Adventurer
Adventure means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. To me, it means stepping outside of my comfort zone as often as possible. It means taking a different route to work in the morning, trying a new fruit, or hoping on a plane to a distant land. I try to incorporate small adventures into every day. As well as go on larger trips. I often travel for work, and that means I go to some pretty unusual places. I make an effort to spend some time exploring wherever I end up. I hope to post about my big trips as well as my micro-adventures on this blog to share my love of spontaneity and novelty with like-minded people.
I’m excited to finally be able to share my life, motivation, and goals with people who may benefit from it. My hope is that over this first year, I can begin to build a community focused around the improvement of the self and the world at large. I’m sharing this adventure with you. Come escape the lack of purpose. Come escape the routine. Come escape the pull of consumerism. Come escape with me.
Finally, what questions do you want me to answer with this blog?
